There should be accessibility settings available for both the mobile and desktop versions of the schedule. I have employees who need larger text and buttons, as well as changes in color contrast, and neither the web version or the mobile app offers this. The mobile app also does not pick up the accessibility settings of the phone itself, which it should do. Zooming in makes it very challenging to see and scroll through the schedule and click into the shift notes, and is not a viable way of accessing the schedule for my employees, which means I will have to print their schedules and hand them off in person, missing the entire point of having an online scheduling system. I will not recommend this system to others until there are more options available for accessibility.
Why should we implement this
Many companies have employees who have different accessibility needs, and as party of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies we must offer alternatives to staff who need accommodation. If your software does not support this, it will not be usable for companies with these needs and commitments to inclusion. It is a feature offered in most apps and many websites, and would help grow your user base. |
I very much agree. This is a must have feature for all apps. It is critical that you prioritize accessibility features on your development list.
